QR Ph explained: one QR code that any bank or e-wallet can pay

QR Ph is the national QR code standard of the Philippines, set by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP). Before it, a GCash QR only worked in GCash and a bank QR only worked in that bank. With QR Ph, one code can be scanned by any participating bank or e-wallet app, and the transfer goes through InstaPay.

For sellers and freelancers, that means one QR on your counter, your packaging or your payment page can be paid from GCash, Maya, BPI, BDO and dozens of other apps.

Free for one page. Money goes straight to your account.

Set it up in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Generate your receiving QR

In your bank or e-wallet app, look for “Receive”, “My QR” or “Generate QR”. Make sure it’s for receiving money, not paying a merchant.

  2. 2

    Save the image

Save it to your gallery. Don’t crop through the code or add filters, since scanners need the full, sharp square.

  3. 3

    Upload it to your page

Mypayme reads the QR, checks it’s a valid QR Ph code, and shows payers the name stored inside it.

Person-to-person vs. merchant QR Ph

There are two kinds. Person-to-person (P2P) QR Ph codes come from your personal bank or e-wallet account and are what most individuals and small sellers use. Merchant (P2M) QR Ph codes come from merchant accounts and payment providers, and may involve fees and settlement terms. Both follow the same national standard.

Static vs. dynamic QR codes

A static QR has no amount, so the payer types it in, and you can reuse it forever. A dynamic QR includes a specific amount, which is useful for invoices. Mypayme can optionally build a copy of your QR with the requested amount filled in for request links, while always offering your original QR as a fallback.

How payers scan a QR on the same phone

Most people open your link on the phone they’ll pay with, so they can’t point the camera at their own screen. The fix: save the QR image, open the banking app, choose Scan / Pay QR, then pick the image from the gallery. Your Mypayme page explains this to payers automatically.

QR scams and how to avoid them

A common trick is swapping a seller’s QR for someone else’s. Protect yourself and your customers:

  • Payers should always check the recipient name their app shows before confirming.
  • Share your QR from one trusted place, your payment page, instead of reposting screenshots.
  • Mypayme shows the name stored inside your QR and flags QR codes that appear on more than one account.

Frequently asked questions

Is QR Ph free?

Receiving through a personal QR Ph code is usually free for you. The payer’s app may charge an InstaPay fee, depending on the bank or e-wallet.

Can a GCash user scan my bank’s QR Ph code?

Yes. That’s the point of QR Ph: participating apps can scan each other’s codes.

Why doesn’t my QR scan?

Common causes are a cropped or blurry image, an old app-specific QR from before QR Ph, or a merchant QR the payer’s app doesn’t support. Generate a fresh receiving QR and upload the original image.

Where can I read the official rules?

The BSP publishes FAQs on QR Ph for person-to-person payments on its website, bsp.gov.ph.
